The failures of the U.N.

I was going to list, individually, all of the many acknowledged failures of the U.N. from:

Somalia to
Rwanda to
Bosnia here and here

and including the whole Oil for Food Scandal that placed 10 Billion dollars in Saddam's pockets,
but it would take far too long. So, for those of you who think that the U.N. has been anything but useless, the National Center for Policy Analysis has a list of the many failures in addition to the few successes. Note the major difference between the two.

Many human tragedies could have been averted had the U.N. acted accordingly. When you don't act soon enough, or cut and run before a task is finished, or tie the hands of the Peacekeeping Force by not allowing them to engage unless fired upon, then you have trouble.

Don't worry, incognito, one day you will understand. A bit more life experience required on your behalf I think.

Meanwhile, stay close. You silly little girl.

Lambent - I just figured out who you are. You're the French guy in Monty Python and the Holy Grail as he whispers to his friends, "I told them we already have a grail." Then shouts over the wall, "now go away or I shall taunt you a second time."

lambent is More like Upperclass Twit of the Year calibre IMHO.

dear incognito,

i bookmarked your blog several weeks ago. it caught my eye since i am (mainly) republican, as is my family, and we live in the northeast. here, you can't identify yourself as a republican without negative consequences.

when i returned to your site today, i decided to write given the roach story. i lived in florida for a while, and absolutely could not handle seeing or being anywhere near roaches. i was so traumatized that i can still remember the places i encountered them in my apartment--and that was over 10 years ago! you're right about it taking a can of spray to kill one of those horrid creatures. my dad would joke that there was no vegetation within a mile radius of my apt due to all the pesticides and traps i had around.

you are a great writer, and sound like a very interesting person. i look forward to reading more of your stories.

Thank you Nat! Please comment whenever you like. I almost left a comment on your blog, but opted against it, in case some of your friends don't know about your politics.

Yes, Florida's state bird is the cockroach. Or should be! :-) Considering some of them actually fly. Yeah, roach encounters can stay with you for decades. I remember a vacation in Jamaica once, and I felt something on my arm. I swatted at it, turned on the light and there was this huge roach scampering away. I felt that on my arm for days.

you're welcome. i do like to stay away from anything controversial on my blog since people don't always take things the way they're intended. and my blog is something that my employer or a potential employer might see so no need to isolate anyone in that realm.

i appreciate your thoughtfulness in even thinking of that, though. it shows that you're smart AND considerate. :) feel free to leave a comment on anything I've written if you like; though my blog seems much more "fluffy" than yours. btw, the "state bird" comment was hilarious!

Yes, I can imagine, Nat. And that's why I don't reveal who I am because you never know who might stumble onto your blog. then again, I'm sure some of my colleagues and friends might be able to eventually figure it out.
I started this blog to vent about my frustrations re. world affairs and US politics, considering I can't with my fellow actors.
Sooo..
:-)
